Actually I agree with pretty much all of this. I once had a conversation with a dude that was absolute adamant that he was ok, because he paid for the pro version of some shitty p2p client. I tried telling him that meant nothing, and he was an idiot for paying for it…

Magnus, the 90’s called and they want their p2p method back. Seriously, I know IRC is great and all, but it’s got nothing on bit torrent.
Aside from 800kbs dl vs the usual 2 – 3 kbs or MAX 300kbs on torrents (only w the right client on a private tracker with the right configuration). Add to that EVERY public tracker is monitored by at least Mediasentry and PG2 blocklists are worthless.
IRC may have been around for a while but you still can’t beat it.

Max 300kbs? wtf kind of crippled client are you using? I get 100kps from single sources sometimes, with a few of those I generally download most torrents at/around 1.5mbs, and the downloads all start immediately, unlike IRC which have wait lists, and generally aren’t very fast.
Waiting on a file to download isn’t something that I like to do, and reminds me of dial up days, and makes me cry. IRC is beaten, hands down, by even the shittiest p2p clients out there.

Don’t get me wrong, I like torrents too (I’d like them more at 1.5mbs. Hell I’d jack off all over them) but they’re too easy to use and everything easy to use gets ruined by the monkeys.

You can get that speed easy if it’s a good torrent, and there’s a hell of a lot more good torrents around now than six months ago. Fuck, I don’t even care. Torrents go fast enough for me, even if I get a bad slow one. I just like to be able to find 99% of what I’m looking for, which could never be done on Frostwire or IRC or whatever else.
When bored: use limewire.
