Ionized Plasma, but yes we can build TIE fighters now. Dogfights will take days or weeks, and the ships will be the size of buses.

Very cool, and unlike Project Orion, might actually occur in this political climate (nukes in space? that won’t freak out other nations). Neat technology, but the energy usage makes it difficult to implement.
